Athens Designer Outlet

ATHENS | GREECE

Master plan, architectural design of the shopping centre from earlier concept stage to final design, assistance in the supervision of works.

The McArthurGlen Designer Outlet in Athens is the first shopping centre of its kind in Greece.
The buildings are organised in an unusual functional scheme, with open pedestrian walkways on two floors and two levels of underground parking for 1,500 cars.
The two entrance plazas are presented as large amphitheatres with an elaborate composition of staircases and ramps to provide all the connections to the different levels of walkways, the surrounding pedestrian paths and the underground car parks.
The architecture of the Outlet recalls the buildings characterising Athens in the late 19th century.  The neoclassical has been reproduced through the use of traditional building materials and decorative wooden elements.
A large number of pergolas and awnings shade the pedestrian streets in the hot Greek summers, giving the feeling of being in a small Mediterranean village.
