The project aimed to restore the full functionality of the entire heritage-listed property complex owned by the CRF Foundation, with particular focus on the office areas. The historic headquarters of the Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze, now home to the Foundation of the same name, is a large and structurally complex building. It represents the layered evolution of an original sixteenth-century core, Palazzo Pucci, which was gradually expanded through the incorporation of adjacent historic structures, culminating in the 1950s intervention by architect Giovanni Michelucci, who left an indelible mark on twentieth century Italian architecture.
Following the restoration works, the building became the headquarters of the Fondazione Biblioteche della Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze, which houses an extraordinarily valuable collection of books and documents comprising more than 25,000 volumes.
The project involved a series of coordinated interventions aimed at the comprehensive refurbishment of the property. Externally, these included the restyling of the façades, improvements to the technical and energy performance of both façades and roof, and the reorganisation of the surrounding areas. Internally, the works focused on the redistribution of spaces, the upgrading of building systems in line with current regulations, and the removal of architectural barriers.
Structural consolidation of the roof over the central hall of the Cassa di Risparmio, known as the Michelucci Hall, was also carried out.
