Territorial Redevelopment of the Mondeggi Estate

FLORENCE | ITALY

Final design, construction supervision, health and safety services.

The Mondeggi Estate is an ancient residence and monumental complex of late medieval layout that belonged to the Della Gherardesca Counts for over four centuries. It consists of the manor house, the large garden enriched by numerous fountains and appurtenant buildings, all surrounded by almost 170 hectares of land. In implementing the project guidelines of the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), for investments aimed at fostering better social inclusion in urban and suburban areas, the Metropolitan City of Florence has decided to allocate part of the resources for territorial and social regeneration to one of the main assets of the metropolitan territory and heritage: the Villa Mondeggi Estate.
The design, work supervision and safety project includes the Villa Mondeggi, the chapel, the gardener’s house with its greenhouses, the historic Italian and English gardens, and the pomarium. The design envisages the recovery of all the buildings and outdoor areas with a conservative and re-functionalisation philosophy, giving the entire structure a social purpose aimed at conference, training and didactic functions, catering, guest quarters and agricultural functions linked to the estate’s activities.
