Serravalle Pocket Gardens
SERRAVALLE SCRIVIA | ITALY
Design, construction supervision, testing, and licencing.
The Serravalle Pocket Gardens project at the McArthurGlen Outlet in Serravalle Scrivia sets ambitious goals: to introduce greenery into a heavily mineralized environment, create oases of comfort and refreshment, and transform the commercial space with a green vision. This initiative has resulted in a series of gardens scattered throughout the center’s squares. Though united by a common design language, each garden features unique botanical and thematic elements, with distinct landmarks that aid in wayfinding and define the character of each area.
A widespread depaving operation has allowed a lush vegetal layer to be added to the structure, significantly improving temperature regulation, surface drainage, and the overall visitor experience. The center now includes 1,300 square meters of green space, 33 new trees, and over 130 species of shrubs and flowers, all contributing to increased biodiversity. Additionally, three fountains with water features serve as iconic landmarks, offering aesthetic appeal and further cooling the environment.
By using perennial species, the project has reduced maintenance needs, minimized water usage, and ensured sustainable management of these extensive green areas.
