Renewal of Bucaletto neighborhood
POTENZA | ITALY
Final Design.
Originally established as an emergency measure to accommodate victims of the 1980 Irpinia earthquake, the “citadel” in the Bucaletto neighbourhood has over time evolved into a housing haven for more vulnerable segments of the population. To address the resulting conditions of degradation and social hardship, the municipality of Potenza has developed an urban regeneration plan.
This social housing project, designed using BIM methodology, includes the construction of five new multi-storey buildings, comprising a total of 66 dwellings. Additionally, the project features a covered local market for the sale of fruit, vegetables, and street food. The plan also encompasses urbanisation works and external improvements, including pedestrian pathways and green spaces.
The design of the buildings adheres to the highest sustainable criteria, qualifying them as NZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Buildings). This is achieved through superior thermal and acoustic insulation, the installation of photovoltaic panels on the roofs, and the incorporation of heat pumps.
The spaces have been designed to ensure accessibility for individuals with reduced or impaired motor or sensory abilities, providing them with safe and autonomous use of the facilities.
The landscaping and external arrangements integrate seamlessly with the existing environment, incorporating native tree species to enhance the area’s natural harmony.
