Condition of Assessment of Al Faw Archeological Site
AL FAW | KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA
Developing methods and materials for conservation treatment.
The scope of work focuses on the residential area of the site which is characterized by a dense urban pattern of historical buildings dating between the 4th century BCE and the 4th century CE, unearthed during the archaeological excavations initiated in the seventies and left exposed since. This area has been identified by the Heritage Commission as being in specific need of attention and urgent conservation interventions due to its fragile conditions and the progressively harsher precipitation events impacting on the site in recent seasons.
The project aims to support the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in assessing the physical conditions of vulnerable structures in the residential area of Al Faw site and provide recommendations for their conservation, protection and reburial. This is achieved through site inspection and preliminary assessment, condition assessment, proposal of conservation interventions and detailed design for pilot interventions.
