Solid Waste Management

LEBANON

Engineering design, work supervision and associated services for sanitary landfills and solid waste treatment facilities. Design, EIA studies and work supervision for two sorting plants, two municipal solid waste landfills, composting plants and inert waste.

Since the start of the Syrian conflict in 2011, Lebanon experienced a massive influx of refugees, estimated at 1,835,000 by the end of December 2014 (37% of the population).
This led to an unmanageable increase in the amount of solid waste produced, which caused heavy pollution of the land, the water and the atmosphere.
The size of the Country, the growth of the population, the urbanization and the dwindling open land areas are exacerbating solid waste management (SWM) issues in Lebanon, pushing the nation to the edge of a crisis.
Political wrangling and environmental constraints have so far prevented the implementation of a comprehensive plan for SWM in Lebanon.
